NOT ALL OLIVE OIL IS CREATED EQUAL
Most people have heard by now that there's a widespread problem with olive oil. Few know what that really means and it goes deeper than "the oil on the shelf isn't what the brand says it is."
The headline you've seen that 80% of olive oil is fake is mostly marketing. It stems from a 2010 UC Davis report that found many imported oils failed sensory standards, not that they were chemically adulterated. The real issue is less dramatic and more pervasive: oils are oxidized, packaged poorly, stored badly, or blended past their prime. Not all of it is outright fake. But a lot of it isn't what it's supposed to be.
What actually matters is sourcing, timelines, protection, and how brands deliver the oil to you. Large companies lose control of all four as they scale, and it shows in the bottle.
This is where Hoji is different. But first, why olive oil at all?
Why Olive Oil?
When Jack started incorporating real extra virgin olive oil daily, he felt a noticeable shift. Combined with a new holistic routine, it brought mental clarity, steadier energy, and better focus for the first time in almost two years.
The science backs it up. The components that make olive oil special, polyphenols, healthy fats, antioxidants, do real work in the body. Compounds like hydroxytyrosol and oleocanthal have been studied for their impact on brain health, inflammation, and cognitive function. Olive oil isn't just a dressing or a cooking oil. It's one of the most studied, most foundational foods on the planet.
The Problem With Most Olive Oil
- Oxidation & Potency. Most bottles lose potency fast from heat, light, and oxygen exposure. A smaller, more protected format solves it.
- Mislabeling & Transparency. A large share of oils on the shelf are blended, aged, degraded, or lack harvest information - often with no way to tell from the label. True transparency is the fix.
- Inconvenience. Standard bottles are hard to use daily, especially on the go. Daily habits need daily-ready formats.
- Packaging. Leaky bottles, poor sealing, wasteful designs. Packaging should be both functional and sustainable.
- Sourcing. Most suppliers don't prioritize traceability. Accountability has to start at the grove.
Our Solution: Hoji
We built Hoji to solve the exact problems Jack faced with a majority of oil out there:
- Freshness: Our packets are sealed until you snap. Our bottles are small for a reason. Minimal oil oxidizes & no oil wasted.
- Sourcing: Fully traceable, tested, and transparent. Our small family farms make it easy to track and monitor.
- Convenience: Shoot it straight, add to coffee, drizzle on food, whatever works. No measuring, no mess.
- Consistency: Single packets help make this daily habit easy to maintain.
- Authenticity: No inflated promises. Just sharing our story and what helped us- a habit with real benefits that compound over time.
Why It Matters
The Mediterranean diet has had olive oil at its center for thousands of years, so none of this is inherently new. We're just making it as easy as possible for people to incorporate into their life while leaving behind the guesswork.
We don't do trends. We don't do overpromises. We operate by delivering real benefits through small, daily, proven choices.
We built this because it worked for us. If it works for you too, then Hoji did its job.
